With the Text To Table Converter Add-On, you can extract table data directly from images using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Simply upload or paste an image containing a table, and the add-on will automatically detect and convert it into an editable table in Google Docs™, Google Slides™, and Google Sheets™.


The Image to Table feature uses advanced AI-powered OCR technology to:

  • Detect table boundaries in images automatically
  • Extract text and structure from each cell
  • Convert to editable tables that you can modify and format
  • Handle various image types including photos, screenshots, and scanned documents

Using Image to Table in Google Docs™ and Google Slides™

In Google Docs™ and Google Slides™, you can convert images to tables in two ways:

Method 1: Select an Image in Your Document

  1. Insert or select an image in your Google Docs™ document or Google Slides™ presentation that contains a table.

  2. Run Text to Table Navigate through the menu: Extensions > Text To Table Converter > 🔤 ➜ 🔡 Selected Text to Table.

    The add-on will automatically detect that an image is selected and analyze it for tables.

  3. View the Result Any detected tables will be extracted and inserted into your document or slide as editable tables.

  1. Open the Text to Table feature Navigate through the menu: Extensions > Text To Table Converter > 🔤 ➜ 🔡 Selected Text to Table.

  2. Select or upload an image If no image is selected in your document, a window will open where you can:

    • Select a picture from Google Drive™
    • Upload a picture from your computer
    • Paste an image from your clipboard
  3. Extract the table Click to confirm, and the add-on will analyze the image and extract any detected tables into your document or slide.


In Google Sheets™, the Image to Table feature works through the sidebar:

  1. Open the sidebar Navigate through the menu: Extensions > Text To Table Converter > Open Sidebar.

  2. Select Image to Table In the sidebar, find and click on “Selected Image to Table”.

  3. Upload or paste your image You can:

    • Upload an image from your computer
    • Paste an image from your clipboard
    • Select an image from Google Drive™
  4. Extract the table The add-on will analyze the image using OCR technology and automatically insert the detected table into your spreadsheet.


To get the best results when converting images to tables:

  • Image Quality: Use clear, high-resolution images with good contrast between text and background
  • Table Clarity: Ensure table borders and cell boundaries are visible
  • Text Readability: Make sure text in the image is legible and not blurry
  • Straight Images: For best results, use images where tables are straight and not rotated
  • Well-Lit Photos: If photographing documents, ensure good lighting to avoid shadows

  • Text to Table: Convert structured or unstructured text into tables
  • Extract Content from PDF or Image: Extract all content (text, tables, formulas) from PDFs or images
  • Table to Text: Convert tables back into text format
