How to Hide the AI Advertisement, Gemini, and Upgrade Button in Google Slides™

Google Slides™ can now open with a large AI getting-started advertisement before you reach the editor. It offers AI-generated slides, images, and infographics, plus an Import option and a Blank slide card.

If you do not use these AI entry points, you can hide the opening dialog and its backdrop with Stylus, a browser extension that applies custom CSS to a website. The same style can also hide the Try Gemini sparkle and Upgrade button in the Slides toolbar.

Hide the AI Advertisement on Open#

The opening experience is a modal dialog with the live ID #insertabletemplates-dialog-notforstyling, which also carries the class .getting-started-dialog. The AI card view inside it is #getting-started-dialog-entry-point-selection-view. Google also adds a full-screen .goog-modalpopup-bg backdrop; hiding only the dialog can leave the editor blocked by that backdrop.

The dialog is not limited to new presentations. It also reappears on presentations you already own when you open them again, which is why it can feel like it opens every single time you go into Google Slides™. There is no setting in Slides to turn it off, and closing it with the ✕ only dismisses it for that visit.

The current opening dialog and backdrop were verified in Google Slides on July 30, 2026, on both a newly created presentation and an existing one that was reopened. The visible dialog had the accessible name Getting started and contained the cards Slides, Images, Infographics, Import, and Blank slide.

The current Try Gemini control uses this compact four-color sparkle:

Some accounts may still show an older blue Gemini icon or a larger Ask Gemini button.

Step 1: Install Stylus#

• Install Stylus for Chrome
• Install Stylus for Firefox

Step 2: Create a Style for Google Slides#

1. Open a presentation in Google Slides™.
2. Click the Stylus icon in your browser toolbar, then select Manage.
3. Click Write new style.
4. Under Applies to, choose URLs starting with.
5. Enter this URL:

6. Paste this CSS into the editor:

7. Name the style Cleaner Google Slides, click Save, and make sure Enabled is checked.
8. Refresh the presentation.

What Each Selector Hides#

Keeping both the older and current Gemini selectors helps the style work across different Google Slides interface rollouts.

Troubleshooting#

The AI Advertisement or Backdrop Is Still Visible#

Confirm the style is enabled and refresh a new Slides tab. The dialog selector is scoped to the Slides getting-started dialog, while the backdrop rule uses the modern CSS :has() selector to hide the backdrop only while that dialog is open.

Gemini or Upgrade Is Still Visible#

Save the style, confirm it is enabled, and refresh the presentation. Also confirm that the style applies to URLs starting with https://docs.google.com/presentation/.

The current Gemini and Upgrade selectors were verified in Google Slides on July 22, 2026. If Google changes its interface again, inspect the visible control in browser developer tools to find its new container class or ID. The opening AI dialog selectors were verified separately on July 30, 2026.

Stylus Does Not Appear in the Toolbar#

Open your browser’s extension menu and pin Stylus to the toolbar. In Chrome, click the extensions icon, find Stylus, and select the pin icon.
